Problem 1:

  • we might want to consider a way to de-couple GPAs from a session, but does not seem to be a MUST - the joining seems to be OK for most cases
  • the descriptor is needed - for example, there are also specialized GPAs, like "term" GPAs or other kinds of GPA calcualations based on certain classes of courses

Problem 2:

  • The issue is there may be a state code or a local code, or both, but one or the other may be missing. This results in a problem creating a natural key. 
  • may need some surrogate ID

Need some way to "link to a course catalog" to show where that code resolves.

Could put codes into an array of common complex entities (like w student ID codes - e.g. "code", "assigning system", "namespace"), but this is possibility over-designing.

  • Would allow for versioning of course catalogs
  • Would allow for mapping to SCED codes
