Context
There has been a historic disproportionality for minority students with respect to chronic absenteeism, discipline, and student outcomes. Identifying, analyzing, and responding to disproportionality is critically dependent on the district’s data systems, which up until now, have largely been limited to after-the-fact reporting. Several key issues have been identified:
- Inconsistent data entry and classification practices impact data accuracy and consistency, which, in turn, impacts the ability to address equity issues.
- Data integration issues impact the ability to provide consolidated data.
- Lack of real-time data limits the ability to conduct timely interventions.
More Detail
A detailed version of the goals is as follows:
- Review and Prioritize the Student Equity requirements contributed by Leon County
Leon County worked in conjunction with MSDF to identify requirements needed to identify disproportionate responses to the diverse community inside a school district. This special interest group will review the requirements identified by Leon county and help prioritize those requirements from your own perspective of districts utilization or data capture. - Provide input into and feedback on the Alliance's work to deliver a Starter Kit focused on Student Equity
The Alliance plans to deliver a "starter" visualization that builds on top of the Equity needs outlined by Leon county. On starter kits more generally, see: Starter Kits. The Alliance is soliciting feedback on this approach and interest in adopting the collateral that will be developed with the Equity starter kit initiative. - Discuss the current data availability to answer these Student Equity questions
The Alliance is also looking for feedback on data quality and accessibility needed to fulfill the Student Equity business case outlined above.
