Vendor-Vendor Data Exchange

Overview

The Vendor-to-Vendor SIG was a convening on June 23 and 24th in Austin, TX of members of the Ed-Fi community to discuss how Ed-Fi standards and technology can facilitate address challenges schools and districts face when integrating data across multiple vendor systems.  The session was faciliated by ThoughtWorks.

The formal goal from the agenda was as follows:

Gather input from local education agencies, vendors, and implementation partners in order to identify opportunities help the Ed-Fi Alliance enable vendor-to-vendor data exchange and other forms of data interoperability collaborations. We will look broadly at the current and upcoming challenges of data integration in the space, and within the scope of Ed-Fi’s mandate, and determine specific ways the Ed-Fi Alliance can contribute to a solution. One of the range of possible technical approaches that will be discussed incudes the creation of more narrowly defined sub-sets of the Ed-Fi data standard (“profiles”) that would provide clear guidance on the data required to meet specific use cases and limit access to potentially sensitive data. A broad industry group who is active in the field has been invited so that multiple perspectives can be leveraged in exploring the challenge and developing specific paths for action.
