MSP SIG - Meeting 21 - 2024-07-09
Participants
Agenda
Partner program data sharing
Data quality issues
Notes
Partner program data sharing
Nathan reviewed the asks of MSPs to share data (implementations, use cases, etc.) and if the MSPs would be willing. The participants indicated this seemed reasonable. Nathan to follow up individually via email. Nathan also described how data would be shared back (without customer-client relationships attached).
Data quality issues
The SIG discussed issues with data quality coming from source systems – and especially SIS systems – and potential solutions.
Causes
Perceived financial incentive to make sharing harder leading to low investment
Vendor understanding of Ed-Fi data model is poor
LEA training on using the vendor Ed-Fi integration is low (by vendors or consumption by LEAs - was unclear)
Optionality available in SIS system mappings, and LEA knowledge of how to navigate that optionality
Movement of validations from LEAs to vendors generally in a API-based exchange, esp. as there is diversity of specifications based on Ed-Fi
Complexity of descriptor mapping
Technical debt of the SIS system and business models focused on customization (in some cases)
Notes on the causes discussion
Interestingly, it was agreed that poor data quality in the SIS is NOT a major issue – it does occur, but it is not one of the major issues
It was also debated if descriptor mapping was a problem or not. It was agreed to be laborious, but was solvable. It was also mentioned that descriptor mappings as data might provide some efficiency here.
Paths forward
Most paths points to a strengthened certification that drives more vendor investment
Another concept was to connect to business units within the SIS - in some cases, major SIS systems likely see opportunity from Ed-Fi generally (for example, an analytics product line)
We should get started on pushing Assessment certifications via SEAs especially
August agenda
Admin console roadmap
Allowing MSPs to get involved earlier in development and testing cycles for Ed-Fi technology releases
