Agenda

  • Assessment vendor coordination – status update + discussion
  • CEDS integration – open discussion
  • Ed-Fi training content related to managed providers

Notes

MSP-focused courses

  • Ed-Fi staff confirmed the assumption that Ed-Fi wants to see more MSP capacity in the field, as our assessment is that capacity cannot meet demand currently
  • Some questions about who the audience for the first course is.
  • There were questions about how you get content for the first course, as best practice may be guarded by MSPs as part of their value proposition
  • The general feedback was that the second course is not useful: content would be better incorporated into a course focused on ESAs or other agencies who would price and support services for LEAs
  • What would be helpful are courses on more narrow, Ed-Fi tech and data integration areas: error messages, data mapping resources, validation needs, etc.

CEDS integration

Discussion expanded to support general collaboration with standards bodies

  • Progress and market clarity here would be good; lack of standards likely suppressing some market activity. It was suggested a couple of times that some kind of joint endorsement by the bodies of common work or architecture would be a good move for everyone.
  • Competing asks of vendors may be the worst outcome
  • CEDS DW focus is interesting, but might be better conceived of as more open-ended to allow for various DW technologies and strategies
  • Ed-Fi staff asked if the strategy to get the CEDS ontology and contractual input binding and investigate want to move Ed-Fi data (likely JSON) into that CEDS binding seemed useful. The general consensus was yes, we want to push for practical, usable examples

CEDS Roadmap Focus Areas

(STATS-DC session "Shaping the Future of Common Education Data Standard"; Eric's notes - could not find slide deck in online materials)

  1. Get CEDS DW in states and used to submit EDFacts
  2. Use CEDS for administrative collections (e.g. Perkins) and research
  3. Use CEDS data to enhance state SLDS efforts
  4. Enable community contributions (e.g., process, governance)
  5. Facilitate community development around the CEDS DW to support SLDS-based research
