Meeting Notes

  • Intros: Have a good mix of newcomers and returners (see link above)
  • Goals from Charter (see slide 4 of meeting PPT)
    • Prioritization
    • Interoperability
    • Reporting
    • Impact
    • Best Practices
    • Shared Development
  • Focus areas (see slide 5 of meeting PPT)
    • Inventory snapshot updated
    • Backlog Board
    • Collaboratively reach out to SIS vendors
    • Collision cases between state and LEA such as in progress grades
      • what data standard and certification should include to get data and use in analytics such as progress grades to help students; 6.0 release in August for SY23-24; grades endpoint and adding 2 new points
  • Wish list “I'm really blocked because of XX”:
    • From the chat:
      • CREC: Generic survey utility where districts can customize questions (TPDM is what we used originally)
        • Could think about using this in assessment module, but challenging with teacher/anonymous
        •  MOREnet: has done some work with equity surveys - course performance based on equity and access and on curriculum development platforms
        • Marcos Alcozer: I maintain a Google Forms API to /surveys sync tool and would be interested in building upon that if it helps folks here.
      • MOREnet:  Want to be ahead of state tools; need timely data of assessment scoring results
      • Walla Walla Public Schools: interest in measuring various efficiencies - measuring inputs (e.g. teachers vs student output - relative model)
        • Standardized costing pieces such as comparing mentoring inputs to results
        • History of applying edfi against domain - finance data?
        • Different philosophies - burgeoning approaches around how to build analytics using ed-fi data
      • Lyria: Inventory of use cases; Backlog of requests; Repository of templates
      • San Diego County Office of Education: Finance management, transcript management, staff certification management in the ODS
        • Education Analytics: Should look more in finance domain and how to leverage Ed-Fi data for analytic purposes
        • FLCODE: I think Wisconsin did some work to modify the original finance model? Also seems like San Francisco mentioned to me some work/feedback about the Finance domain??
        • FLCODE:: @Sayee, did you do some work with the Finance model, too?
        • Maureen Wentworth: That is correct, the ed-fi finance work was spear headed by WIand guided by Sayee
        • Sayee Srinivasan: Yes, we did a lot of work and we published an RFC.
        • Education Analytics: i think that's a great topic...would be curious to have a few orgs share tactics on that, and needs
        • Sayee Srinivasan: https://edfi.atlassian.net/wiki/display/GOV/ED-FI+RFC+18+-+FINANCE+API
        • Maureen Wentworth: Plug for the Summit: Wisconsin will be presenting on their finance integration work
        • Sayee Srinivasan: If you all need an insight into this.  I am happy to walk through this when you all need it.
          • Sayee Srinivasan: Yes the Summit session will provide a view of how the model is getting operationalized in WI.
      • Marcos Alcozer: Idea for CWG topic: How do you know that your Ed-Fi implementation 100% matches the source systems?
        • INsite: informally, I'd say the best match happens when a district really uses the data from the ODS--which allows them to see when it is wrong and get it fixed. If you never look at it, you will never know.
      • Summary of potential topics to explore:
        • Integrating survey data
        • Financial data access, use, and best practices
        • Data Quality
      • Considerations that may be at odds with LEA wishlists: district/state collisions - the needs could very well be different - how do we consider and plan for this?
  • Implementation Capability Framework (ICF):Robust tool
    • Resources: Self-Assessment Tool - recommend that each Collaborative complete this to learn where they are in the ICF capabilities
    • Asks: Provide feedback to the team
  • Additional Goals:
    • Collecting best practices - learning from the pioneering work from this group
    • Survey shared as a tool to capture feedback, resources, ideas

Next steps

  • Ping Ed-Fi Slack for more discussion
  • Send follow up email with materials and resharing links for easy access
  • In email, include best channels of comms
    • I know the slack channel was underutilized last year - opportunity to try to reboot this channel? If not, what is the best pathway?
  • Reshare the potential topics raised - ask for feedback on these and solicit any others
  • Completion of ICF Survey by each Collaborative
  • Get availability for next meeting and get that on the calendar

Next Meeting: July 14, 2022 2:00-3:00pm CT
