Notes
The meeting was an open discussion on high priority items for the evolution of Ed-Fi technology. An early, draft summary of the State of the Market report (attached) was distributed in advance of the meeting and intended as a source of possible discussion items. Items raised included:
- Data quality /rules engines / data validation. Much of the discussion revolved around ways to improve data quality via business rules to validate data. It was noted that this is a possible source of community collaboration, as states inclduing Wisconsin and Michigan are building systems to perform additional validation. The questions were if the Ed-Fi ODS should include such a system or "hooks" where such a systems could plug in to the architecture.
- Difficulties troubleshooting data submitted to the Ed-Fi ODS. This included a discussion of improving error messages and possibly introducing an explicit error object into the API resource models. It also noted the difficulties in the current ODS with seeing or validating the current state of the data.
- System performance of the ODS. The main topic proposed here was standardizing the load testing of the Ed-Fi ODS and API across releases, so that implementer can be more confident, and also plan upgrades more easily.
- Ed-Fi IMS partnership. The TAG wanted more input and data on this work on the Ed-Fi roadmap.
