Agenda/Meeting Notes

1.Welcome: (Mark Olofson)

Lindsey Judd joined Ed-Fi Alliance as TPDM Community Manager at the start of September.

2. Data Ingestion Project Update (Steven Arnold)

  • Initial Findings can be found in white paper and PPT at https://edfi.atlassian.net/wiki/display/TPDMX/TPDM+Data+Ingestion+Research
  • From initial findings Ed-Fi asked Unicon to develop a PoC data ingestion tool that would pull data from a Banner instance and add data to a TPDM instance
  • Focused on TeacherCandidate data (basic profile info, addresses, etc.)
  • Unicon has wrapped up initial development on the PoC and the final report from Unicon due soon
  • Ed-Fi is considering expanding PoC to full application in 2021
  • Working with iPaaS provider N2N to provide a data transfer platform with pre-built “recipes” that supports Banner and Peoplesoft to TPDM

3. Plans for RFC v1.0 release (Steven Arnold)

  • Building on that plan that started with v0.8, continued alignment with Ed-Fi Core
    • TPDMX-175 – Education Organization alignment
      • Use orgs that exist in core
        • University = PostSecondaryInstitution, TeacherPreparationProvider = School
  • Updates to application pipeline
    • Applicant and Prospect – renamed, person references removed
    • Cleaned up and made clearer, can be used in higher Ed and K-12
  • Updates to clarify Educator over Teacher
    • TeacherCandidate = Candidate
    • TeacherPreparationProviderProgram = EducatorPrearationProgram
  • Review of StudentGrowthMeasures
    • Use PerformanceEvaluation domain or review for core alignment
  • Potentially examining the Anonymized student domain
  • Post 1.0 – Add department as an education organization under school, hopefully as a core data standard update
  • Mark Olofson: we use MappingEdu, when would 1.0 would be available in mappingEdu?
  • SA:  Mid-December, around the time of the release; will depend some on what the final model looks like and when we arrive at that final

4. Starter Kit Use Case (Lindsey Judd and Itzel Torres)

The Alliance is building a set of starter kits to assist the field with self-guided implementations: SEA, LEA, TPDM

Goal: To create a step-by-step guide to get a non-technical person understanding what needs to be done to implement Ed-Fi and to give specific instructions to a technical lead on how to implement Ed-Fi to solve a specific challenge.

  • TPDM Starter Kit – end-to-end instructions
  • Deploy an ODS, use of Analytics Middle Tier, generate visualizations
  • Demonstration and guidance to build visualizations in PowerBI for one Priority Use Case
  • RAND Group is producing the guide and visualization demonstration
    • Priority Use Case #1– Program Diversity and Persistence
    • Check out the Program Diversity and Persistence Starter Kit developed for release in time for the Ed-Fi Exchange (November 11th)

5. Reviewing Non-Technical Artifacts (Breakout) (Lindsey Judd)

What: A set of non-technical resources were developed to assist with planning and implementation of TPDM. These resources include artifacts/resources relating to:

  • Data Governance
  • Data Sharing Agreement
  • Project Health
  • Readiness indicators

Why: We want to make sure that we have received your feedback before we release these tools to the larger community.

How: Members have been assigned to resources based on your interested indicated from the Survey Monkey poll.

7. Closing (Lindsey Judd)
