Overview

At or Above Benchmark is a shorthand name for a metric that indicates the percentage of students in a school or district who have scored at or above the college readiness benchmark for the SAT or ACT exams.

Because of the importance of entrance exams to college acceptance, many school districts across the nation, including Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, and New York, have incorporated metrics on SAT and ACT performance into their student achievement dashboards. In addition, during focus groups conducted with educators, this metric was considered useful by 95% of those surveyed.
