In-House Video Production

Overview
From time to time, the Ed-Fi Academy team will record its own video and narrated screen capture. This section contains the default specifications and recommended equipment.
Note that this guidance is only prescriptive for courses produced in-house. If you've been asked to provide video or screen recordings by an external production partner, make sure you work with them to understand their standards and requirements.

Process & Preparation
Pre-production
Except for the actual instructional piece of the first template, all videos are fully scripted. This includes the second template where a non-Ed-Fi Academy production team member is the knowledge holder. This ensures that the material is accurate and well-articulated.
Post-production
All postproduction of Academy produced YouTube videos will happen in Camtasia. MSDF always owns licenses, and the software has worked well for the K12 Analytics Engineering videos.
Equipment
Ed-Fi Academy team members will shoot content using the following equipment:
- 4K camera such as the Sony ZV-1
- Videos are published on YouTube in a 1080p format but shooting the raw content in 4K ensures a good quality video.
- Since the camera will be stationary, we don’t need a more expensive camera than a 4K vlog style one
- Lighting system (example)
- It’s important that the team member is in a well-lit environment. Room lighting or a sun-lit room is not enough. The goal with a lighting system is to reduce all shadows from the person in focus and light up everything in frame.
- Condenser microphone
- A mic such as the Rode NT-USB USB Condenser Microphone will ensure high quality audio is captured along with the video.
- Wacom tablet (Wacom CTL4100)
Guests will be filmed via a Zoom call. Guests will need to use a high-quality webcam, a lighting system, and a high-quality mic. A member of the Ed-Fi Academy team will need to meet with the guest prior to the call to make any adjustments necessary to ensure a high-quality recording.
