This section is a list of words commonly found in Ed-Fi Academy material, along with the standard usage.

EdTech. Typically as shown in Academy material. May be edtech, which is consistent with technical documentation style. Notably, not Ed Tech, or ed-tech.

education service agency. As shown. ESA on second use in any course or module.

educator preparation program. Also educator prep program. EPP in second use, with ed prep program okay in spoken material when the tone or content calls for it. May be capitalized to highlight the acronym, but typically as shown. Not education preparation program.

HTTPS. As shown.

Implementation Capabilities Framework. As shown. ICF on second use in any course or module. Note that Implementation and Framework are singular, Capabilities is plural, so not, for example, Implementation Capability Frameworks as occasionally seen in draft material.

A few specific usage guidelines related to the ICF:

• focus area. Uncapitalized, as shown.
• readiness survey. Uncapitalized, as shown.

local education agency. As shown. LEA in second use in any course or module. Not local education authority.

mock up and mockup. The noun is the single-word form mockup. Not mock-up. The verb is still the two-word form mock up.

state education agency. As shown. SEA in second use in any course or module. Not state education authority. It is true that some SEAs have a formal name that includes "Authority." Standard usage in the Ed-Fi Community (and the K–12 space more broadly) has settled on "agency" on the same principle that Massachusetts is commonly known as a "state" even though its formal name is the "Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

technology provider. Prefer over "vendor" wherever appropriate.

things. Where possible, find a more specific noun. However, it is okay to use in conceptual conversations (e.g., about data modeling), where a more specific word may be confusing or misleading.

vendor. Avoid. Wherever appropriate, consider using "technology provider" instead.

workgroup. One word, as shown.
