Academy Audiences

Distinct groups of people make up different audiences of the Ed-Fi Academy. This document defines their key qualities and provides examples of the audience's roles. 

Leaders

Audience consists of stakeholders with a leadership position within SEAs. Director-level whose background may be in education and/or data. Charged with leadership & vision, planning, implementation, training, personnel, etc. They would best fit within Technical Track and Program Track, though in some cases (if they have the knowledge or interest, or if they have a dual Leader-Designer role within the organization) they would benefit from the Data Engineering Track.

Designers

Audience consists of stakeholders with managerial positions within SEAs and LEAs. This audience manages the day-to-day administration and system implementation of various data portals, applications, and platforms within their organization. This audience most likely has a background in a technical discipline (e.g., data science, computer science, information technology, etc.). Audience is most interested in Data Engineering and Technical Track. They could benefit from the Program Track.

Technology Implementers 

Audience consists of technical staff in charge of installation, configuration, repair, and maintenance of systems and databases. There may be some overlap in responsibilities and with Designers (or perhaps they’re the same?). There may be a slight difference in the technology implementers may have more day-to-day interaction with the end-users (education professionals and program staff).  This audience most likely has a background in a technical discipline (e.g., data science, computer science, information technology, etc.). Most interested in the Technical Track. Depending on their duties, there may be some interest in the Data Engineering Track. The Program Track may be of use to them contextually, but is not essential.

Program Staff

Program staff with or without technical background knowledge. They’re invested in the collection and analysis of data (i.e., program efficacy, student outcomes, assessment, demographics, etc.). The end-user. Most likely has a background in education, public administration, etc. Most interested in the Program Track and how data and the Ed-Fi standard can help them with their existing roles.

Technical Support Staff

Staff that works to support Technology Implementers and Designers. Can vary in their support roles from project management to operations and administrative roles. May or may not have a technical background. Enrollment in Ed-Fi academy may be optional for these audiences. For IC (I’d add myself to this category: staff that is not involved directly in technical implementation or programmatic work). Enrollment in any of the tracks may help Technical Support Staff in their duties by providing context, though the knowledge gained here is not essential to their job function.
