Downloading the Ed-Fi Data Standard

This section provides detail about how to access the Ed-Fi Data Standard.

Downloading the v2.2 XML Data Exchange Material

The technical material comprising the XML Data Exchange Framework is freely available for download on this site.

  • The Core XML Schema Definition, Standard Interchange Schema, and a link to sample XML files are available on the Downloads page.

Downloading Other Versions of the Ed-Fi Data Standard XML Data Exchange Material

All versions of the Ed-Fi Data Standard, including previously published versions and RFC material, are contained in a public GitHub repository. The repository is named Ed-Fi-Standard and is managed within the Ed-Fi Alliance organization.

To download and extract the repository archive, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to https://github.com/Ed-Fi-Alliance/Ed-Fi-Standard 

  2. The Ed-Fi Data Standard is organized into folders; each folder corresponds to a release version. For this version, find the folder entitled "v2.2"

  3. Download the repository archive to your local drive using the Download ZIP button.

  4. Open the ZIP file and extract the contents to a local folder.

  5. The compressed ZIP file contains an embedded folder named “Ed-Fi-Standard-master” and child folders therein for each Ed-Fi Data Standard release up to the most recent.
