Mission
The Reporting and Visualization Work Group is being established to evaluate the needs of the community around reporting and visualization and propose a plan to offer a free toolset – that “lights up” the data standard, as part of Ed-Fi Core, that puts the Alliance resources to the most effective use. The mission of the RVWG is twofold:
- Identify the classroom use cases for a reporting and visualization offering with the biggest impact on instructional outcomes.
- Provide to the Ed-Fi Alliance a roadmap for the proposed Ed-Fi Core Reporting and Visualization solution.
Goals
The initial focus of the RVWG in reporting and visualization is to:
- Develop a prioritized set of 1-2 use cases for implementation, release and maintenance as part of Ed-Fi Core (free offering) with the most significant impact on instructional outcomes.
- Develop a common glossary for calculations/metrics used around relevant information to report and options to present that information to users,
- Develop a set of requirements, screen layouts and definitions of calculations/metrics for the prioritized set of use cases.
- Develop a comprehensive proposed plan/roadmap of each use case for governance review and approval.
Operations
RVWG meetings are closed, but all notes and documents are available to the Ed-Fi community (via the RVWG Meetings on Ed-Fi Tech Docs). Meeting notes are summaries and published under the Chatham House Rule (i.e., viewpoints are not attributed to specific individuals) unless the situation demands attribution (e.g., an action is taken by a member, or identity is critical to the point, as in a case where an agency volunteers their field work as an example of a situation or problem). In addition, any RVWG member or community member is invited to comment on meeting notes or other artifacts that are published online, for example, to offer a correction or addition to notes, or to comment on the ideas in the notes.
Membership
Any interested education agency or vendor that is in good standing with the Ed-Fi Alliance may have representatives in the RVWG. Members are responsible for:
· Identifying the primary contact for the agency.
· Providing input and feedback on proposals that are presented for review.
· Registering and participating in the Ed-Fi polling process.
· Participating in information gathering and use case definition.
· Providing input and feedback on use cases and solution proposed roadmap and design.
Membership in the RVWG is ongoing unless the individual requests to be removed from the membership roster or has not participated in RVWG related activities or conference calls.
