Best Practices for Descriptors

A common question during an implementation is how to approach enumerations, commonly known as "code sets" or "descriptors" in K–12 education. See this page for more information on descriptors in the Ed-Fi context. Descriptors raise many questions:

  • Should the district adopt the core Ed-Fi Descriptor values and add any missing local values?
  • Or use only the locally defined values?
  • Or use a hybrid of both local and state values?
