Agenda

  1. Presentation of the specification for NWEA Map Growth - EA to present a how mapping decisions were made for that spec, with discussion.

  2. Discussion

    1. do MSPs like the YAML technology as a means of sharing mappings?

    2. do MSPs like the MAP Growth mapping provided?

  3. Admin Console - progress overview and demo

Notes

Presentation of the specification for NWEA Map Growth
EA Presentation by Julianna Alvord

  • Refer to each individual assessment mapping as “bundle”

  • Public repository of Earth Mover bundles - A bundle is a set of transformation and and specs

  • 2 vendors besides EA are writing bundles and pull requests

  • In the process of major refactor to follow governance

  • Structure of each bundle is generally the same

  • Configuration file - YAML file

  • Templates show structure of data (column) to be sent to Ed-Fi

  • Output - Earth Mover YAML - Transformation Output JSON file for Ed-Fi ODS/API

  • Seeds - captures assessment identifier; capture assessment hierarchy; linking scores to specific subject

  • Subject is very important - When you look at a scores, the same score points don’t mean the same for different subjects

  • For SC - important to get as much data from assessment as possible

  • Each score from each vendor has specific underlying meaning

  • SC had documented flowchart of defining assessment, providing consistency and accuracy

  • https://edanalytics.slite.page/p/FwwhB84DoYVjY1/Assessment-Data-Governance-in-Ed-Fi describes the data governance decisions

  • Bundles were not versioned; now we are refactoring changes to go into next version

  • Compatible with Ed-Fi DS v4 and v5

  • Q: How many assessments have we written a machine readable mapping for at this point? 34 total

Discussion

Q: Do MSPs like the YAML technology as a means of sharing mappings?

Generally the response was “Yes” - key points in the discussion

  • These should also be inclusive of certification aspects and as long as we can agreed on the same specification - that is the most important aspect

  • Important that these are open-source and don’t have IP concerns

  • Will be helpful as we transition from deprecating data import

Actions:

  1. Move best practices into the specifications space -https://edanalytics.slite.page/p/FwwhB84DoYVjY1/Assessment-Data-Governance-in-Ed-Fi

  2. Put best practices into on using the technology into our advice to MSPs and others

Admin Console - progress overview and demo

Not covered - postpone to next month’s meeting
