Notes & Discussion Highlights

  • SY 26–27 Certification Changes (In Progress)

    • Certification Changes for SY 26-27: Report to discuss newly required elements

    • Community feedback is requested on

      • Feasibility of proposed changes in vendor roadmaps

      • Certification plans for MTSS and SPED

      • How to provide guidance for LEAs and SEAs on new requirements

  • Security in Certification

    • Proposal: Include public facing security information in the Ed-Fi registry

    • Verification: Vendors submit proof of SOC 2/FedRamp/FERPA compliance as part of certification or recertification

    • Discussion:

      • Group supported this proposal as an initial step toward maturing security requirements in certification. It does not introduce new requirements for vendors, simply allows them to display the certifications they have already earned and maintain.

  • Credential Distribution

    • Ongoing challenge for bulk credential generation and management across states

    • Open question: Should Ed-Fi build credential tooling for states that lack a portal system?

    • Discussion:

      • Suggested research on leveraging OpenID Connect for enabling vendors to rotate credentials themselves. The approach with focus on automation and integration with SIS systems seems promising giving a streamlined repeatable workflow to minimize manual steps and increase likelihood of adoption.

    • Next Steps:

      • Research and explore feasibility, draft design, circulate with the SIS SIG to confirm alignment and direction.

  • Data Standard 6.0 Preview
